If attaching the wall box to wood, use four #8 or #10 screws or
10-penny nails. A minimum of 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) of screw
threads must penetrate the wood.
If attaching the wall box to metal studs or furniture, use four
#8 or #10 self-tapping sheet metal screws or machine bolts with
matching nuts.

.
Cable and test the controller before fastening it into the
wall box. The cables will be inaccessible after installation.
After installation, if you wish to reprogram the
controller, remove the faceplate from the wall box.
DO NOT loosen the screws holding the controller to
the face plate. Refer to the MLC 52 User’s Manual for
reprogramming instructions.
Preparing the site and installing the wall box
Choose a location that will allow cable runs without
interference. Allow enough depth for both the wall box and
the cables. You may need to install the cables into the wall,
furniture, or conduits before installing the controller.
The installation must conform to national and local electrical
codes and to the electrical box or mud ring size requirements.
Dimensional drawings for a cut-out template are provided in
this user’s guide.
For complete details, refer to the MLC 52 User’s Manual.
1
.
If a wall box is not available for marking the guidelines
for the hole, create a template with the dimensions shown
on page 10. Cut out the center portion of the template, as
indicated.
2
.
Place the template (or the wall box) against the installation
surface, and mark the guidelines for the opening on the
wall or furniture.
3
.
Cut out the material from the marked area.
4
.
Check the opening size by inserting the wall box into the
opening. The box should fit easily. Enlarge or smooth the
edges of the opening if needed.
5
.
Feed cables through the wall box punch-out holes, and
secure them with cable clamps to provide strain relief.
Installation
These accessories can be installed in a wall, table, or lectern,
using a standard, one-gang electrical box for the
MLM 52 1GWP, or a 2-gang wall box for the MLM 52 VC.
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Listed wall boxes are
recommended.
If a wall box or mud ring is already installed, attach the
programmed and tested MLC 52 controller with MLM faceplate,
and secure it in place with screws.
If a wall box is not already installed, see “Preparing the Site and
Installing the Wall Box” below.
CAUTION
Installation and service must be performed by
authorized personnel only. These units must
be installed with accordance with the National
