What’s Normal?
The normal fasting adult blood sugar range for a person
without diabetes is 70-109 mg/dL
1
. One or two hours
after meals, normal blood sugar levels should be less
than 140 mg/dL
2
. Your doctor will determine the range
that is appropriate for you.
Understanding Your Blood Sugar Test Results
IF...
your blood sugar result is within the “normal” range,
AND...
you exhibit symptoms of high blood sugar (fatigue,
increased appetite or thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision,
headache, or achiness) or low blood sugar (sweating,
trembling, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, tingling, or
numbness around the mouth or fingertips),
THEN...
run a glucose control check with your glucose control
solutions and a new test strip. See
Glucose Control
Testing
(page 27).
If the control result is within the
acceptable range, review the proper blood testing
procedure and repeat your test with a new test strip.
If your blood glucose test result still does not reflect the
way you feel, contact your doctor.
