recognise the length of the tape.
When you put in a cassette the video recorder must
first calculate the time played. Therefore, ’-:--’
appears first and only after the tape has been
running for a few seconds the playing time will be
shown.

Automatic search for a tape position
(index search)
At the start of each recording, the video recorder will write an
index code on the tape.

index code.
