3. Receiving Documents
The fax machine has two modes for receiving calls:
AUTO mode:
Select this mode when you only want to receive faxes on the line connected to
the fax machine. The fax machine will answer all calls automatically and
receive incoming faxes.
MANUAL mode:
Select this mode when you have an extension phone connected to the same
line as the fax machine and you want to receive both faxes and voice calls. All
calls, including faxes, must be answered by picking up the extension
phone.
Setting the reception mode
The reception mode is initially set to AUTO. To change the reception mode,
follow these steps:

Using AUTO Reception Mode
In AUTO reception mode, the fax machine automatically answers all calls on
one ring and receives incoming faxes.

You can change the number of rings on which the machine answers calls
by changing Option Setting 2 (see page 107).

If you pick up an extension phone before the fax machine answers, you can
talk to the other party and/or receive a fax as explained in the following
section,
