Using a

Touchtone

Phone to

Operate Your

System

Your system may be equipped with an option that allows system operation from a Touchtone

phone, on or off the premises.
This option enables programmed text to be spoken through the phone and/or broadcast through

interior speakers. Except for custom words, the voice speaks the text that appears on alphanu-

meric touchpads in the system.

Phone Command Prefix

What distinguishes a call to the panel from any other out-going or incoming call is the use of the

Phone Command Prefix:
• In the case of on-site operation, if the Phone Command Prefix is dialed first (within 5 seconds

of picking up the phone), the panel waits for a valid access code or command.

• If the system is being accessed remotely, the Phone Command Prefix is used in conjunction

with the access code.

The prefix is usually

#

, but can be changed to

*

by the installer. If your prefix has been changed,

use

*

as the first key you press instead of

#

.

Accessing the System from Off-site

To access the system from off-site, the system needs to recognize two things about the call:
• The panel needs to recognize that it should answer the phone.
• The panel needs to recognize that the code entered has the authority to operate the system

from off-site.
