Configuration procedure

1.

Configure Router A:
# Specify an IP address for Router A.

system-view

[RouterA] interface ethernet 1/1

[RouterA-Ethernet1/1] ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

# Create VRRP group 1 on Ethernet 1/1 and set its virtual IP address to 10.1.1.111.

[RouterA-Ethernet1/1] vrrp vrid 1 virtual-ip 10.1.1.111

# Assign Router A a higher priority than Router B in VRRP group 1, so Router A can become the
master.

[RouterA-Ethernet1/1] vrrp vrid 1 priority 110

# Configure Router A to operate in preemptive mode, so it can become the master whenever it

operates correctly, and set the preemption delay to 5 seconds to avoid frequent status switchover.

[RouterA-Ethernet1/1] vrrp vrid 1 preempt-mode delay 5

Configure Router B:
# Specify an IP address for Router A.

[RouterB] interface ethernet 1/1

[RouterB-Ethernet1/1] ip address 10.1.1.2 255.255.255.0

# Create VRRP group 1 on Ethernet 1/1 and set its virtual IP address to 10.1.1.111.

[RouterB-Ethernet1/1] vrrp vrid 1 virtual-ip 10.1.1.111

# Configure the priority of Router B in VRRP group 1 as 100.

[RouterB-Ethernet1/1] vrrp vrid 1 priority 100

# Configure Router B to operate in preemptive mode, and set the preemption delay to 5 seconds.

[RouterB-Ethernet1/1] vrrp vrid 1 preempt-mode delay 5

Verify the configuration:
# Ping Host B from Host A. (Details not shown.)
