SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
BEFORE INSPECTING OR SERVICING ANY PART OF THIS MACHINE, SHUT OFF POWER SOURCE,
DISCONNECT SPARK PLUG WIRE FROM SPARK PLUG AND MAKE SURE ALL MOVING PARTS HAVE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP.
WARNING
1. Remove the discharge door and discharge screen.
2. Remove the rear side access cover.
3. Work with one knife shaft at a time. Remove the #10-
24 bolt and nut from the knife shaft and discharge. Do
not reuse.
4. Using a hammer and punch, drive the knife shaft
through the access hole on the rear of the machine.
5. Remove the spacers and shredder knives. Be careful
to keep track of the order the spacers were installed
on the shafts so they can be returned to the original
locations. If the spacers and knives are not installed
correctly, the rotor will be out of balance and will not
have proper shredding action.
6. Reverse or replace the knives and reassemble onto
the rotor. Install a new #10-24 bolt and nut through
the spacer and shaft. Torque to 36 In-lbs.
7. Repeat for remaining shafts.
8. Replace the rear access cover, discharge screen and
discharge door. Torque all 5/16" bolts to 17 Ft-lbs.
Check the condition of the drive belts annually or every
50 hours of operation, whichever comes first. Replace the
belt if cracked, frayed or worn. To replace the belt, proceed
as follows:
1. Remove the PTO shield and shaft from the tractor and
disconnect the machine from the 3-point hitch.
2. Remove the round shield connected to the belt guard
5.8 REPLACING THE SHREDDER KNIVES
5.9 REPLACING THE DRIVE BELT
The serrated shredder knives are designed to offer long
life and can be reversed if they become dull. Ensure the
knives and spacers are properly installed to maintain rotor
balance.
Refer to the Parts Manual for a shredder knife kit. To
remove the knives or to install new shredder kit, proceed
as follows.
The serrated edge of the shredder knives should face
the same direction as the cutting edge of the chipper
blades. Never reuse the #10-24 nut and bolt. Never
reuse shafts or spacers if they show signs of wear or
abuse. Always install new parts when repairing.
WARNING
that covers the PTO shaft by removing the two 5/16"
nuts.
3. Remove the PTO shaft by loosening the two set screw
and sliding the shaft out of the chipper body.
4. Loosen the bolts securing the jackshaft pillowblock
bearings to the chipper body (see below).
5. Slide the jackshaft towards the frame and remove the
belt from the pulleys.
6. Install the new belt and make sure the pulleys are
aligned. If not, adjust the pulleys.
7. Slide the jackshaft away from the frame until the belt
deflection is 7/16" when a 20 lb. load is placed against
the belt. Make sure the jackshaft is aligned parallel to
the rotor shaft before tightening the bolts securing the
pillowblock bearings to the chipper frame.
8. Reinstall belt shields and guards. Install the PTO
shaft and tighten the two set screws. Install the PTO
shield.
