Power Supply Replacement

The modules in a display rely on power supplies that receive 120 VAC from the power
termination panel and send out DC power to the modules. Power supply voltage differs
depending on the LED color of the display.

Monochrome: Each 3.6 VDC power supply provides power for up to two modules in

a display that uses either monochrome red or amber LEDs.

RGB: Each 5.3 VDC power supply provides power for up to two RGB modules.

Power supplies may be installed as single or double units depending on the pixel size of the
display. A double unit consists of two single units connected together. The wiring for a single
unit power supply is shown in Figure 42.

Note: Power supplies in the Schematic drawing are labeled either A or B to designate
the Face to which the power supply is connected (A = Face A, B = Face B). In other
words, modules on Face A are powered by a power supply labeled "A".

Tools required: 1/8” hex wrench, Phillips screwdriver

Complete the following steps to replace a power supply:

1.

Turn off power to the display.

2.

Access the interior of the display by removing the module in front of the power
supply to be replaced. Use a 1/8” hex wrench to turn the latch fasteners. Refer to
Section 6.1 for additional instructions, if needed.

3.

Disconnect and label all the wires connected to the power supply.

4.

Remove the hardware holding the power supply in place.

5.

Follow these steps in reverse order to install a new power supply. Refer to Drawings
A-211978
and 211979 for additional information.
