Using Multiple Supplies
Split Supply
Operation
Split supply operation uses two power supplies to obtain two positive voltages with
a common ground, or to obtain a positive-negative supply.
Two Positive Voltages
To obtain two positive voltages, join the negative output
terminals of both supplies in a common connection as shown in
Figure 4.4
. The
positive output terminals provide the required voltages with respect to the common
connection.

Positive-Negative Supply
To obtain a positive-negative supply, connect the
negative output terminal of one supply to the positive terminal of the second supply
as shown in
Figure 4.5
. The positive output terminal of the first supply now provides
a positive voltage relative to the common connection. The negative output terminal
of the second supply provides the negative voltage. The current limits can be set
independently of each other. The maximum current available in split operation is
equal to the rated output of the supplies.
