Use System Setup to customize a variety of settings to suit your listening environment.
For the contents of a system menu and the initial setting of this unit (
page 44).
• You can change the settings using the buttons on the remote control unit.
• The AVR-686 is equipped with an alpha numeric front panel display that can also be used to check and adjust settings. Some
representative front display examples are shown below.

1 Set the MODE 1 switch to “AUDIO”.
2 Press the SETUP button to enter the setting.
4 Press the ENTER or CURSOR H H button to confirm
the new settings.

the setting, then press the CURSOR F F or G G
button to select the parameter.

Setting the Speaker Configuration
1 Press the CURSOR F F or G G button to select your
front speaker type, then press the ENTER or
CURSOR H H button to switch to the center speaker
setting.

2 Press the CURSOR F F or G G button to select your
center speaker type, then press the ENTER or
CURSOR H H button to switch to the surround
speaker setting.

When “Small” has been selected for the front speakers,
“Large” cannot be selected for the center speaker.
3 Press the CURSOR F F or G G button to select your
surround speaker type, then press the ENTER or
CURSOR H H button to switch to the surround
back speaker setting.

When “Small” has been selected for the front speakers,
“Large” cannot be selected for the surround speakers.
System Setup
The composition of the signals output to each channel and the
frequency response are adjusted automatically according to the
combination of speakers actually being used.
