Blindstitch hems
Blindstitching provides a durable hem finish
that is almost invisible. While it is best suited
to straight or slightly curved hems, taped,
bound, or turned hem edges can also be
blindstitched with ease.

Blindstitch Hem Guide
Raise presser foot, loosen screw, and
slip blindstitch hem guide between screyv
and shank of foot. Make sure underside
of the guide clears the slide plate and
front of foot. Tighten screw with coin.
Prepare hem in the usual way. It is
advisable to baste the hem. Place the
basting at least 1.3 cm (1/2 inch) below
the edge of hem allowance to avoid
catching the flange of guide as you
stitch.
With the wrong side of work uppermost,
turn the hem under, creating a soft fold
from the top edge of hem.
Position hem under the foot with the soft
fold resting against the wall of guide.
Make sure the flange of the guide is
between soft fold and top of hem, as
shown.
Lower presser foot. Stitch so that the
straight stitches fall on the hem
allowance and zig-zag stitches pierce the
soft fold of work. Adjust stitch width if
necessary. While stitching, guide hem
edge in a straight line and feed soft fold
evenly against wall of the guide.
Dobladillos de punto ciego
El punto ciego asegura un acabado de
dobladillo durable casi invisible. Conviene
sobre todo para dobladillos rectos o
ligeramente encorvados. Sin embargo,
también es posible ejecutar con facilidad
bordes de dobladillo forrado de cinta, atado
o doblado.

1. Suba el prénsatelas, afloje el tornillo y
deslice la guia para dobladillo entre el
tornillo y el vástago del prénsatelas.
Asegúrese de que la parte inferior de la
guia pasa sobre la placa deslizante y el
frente del prénsatelas. Apriete el tornillo
con una moneda.
2. Prepare el dobladillo de \a manera
habitual. Se recomienda hilvanarlo. Sitúe
el hilvanado por lo menos 1.3 cms
debajo del borde del sobrante del
dobladillo para evitar que la brida de la
guia no se enganche durante la costura.
3. Con el revés de la obra arriba, doble el
dobladillo adentro, creando un doblez
suave desde el borde superior del
dobladillo.
4. Posicione el dobladillo debajo del
prénsatelas con el doblez suavez contra
la pared de la guia. Asegúrese de que la
brida de la guia se sitúa entre el doblez
suave y la parte superior del dobladillo,
como se ilustra.
5. Baje el prénsatelas. Dé puntos de
manera que los puntos rectos caigan en
el sobrante del dobladillo y que los
puntos en zig-zag penetren el doblez
suave. Ajuste el ancho del punto si hace
falta. Durante la costura, guie al borde
del dobladillo en línea recta y avance el
doblez suave uniformemente contra la
pared de la guia.
