forth until the hem is formed, stopping with the end
under the needle. Lower the presser bar and com
mence to sew, being careful to so guide the cloth as
to keep the Hemmer full.

ADJUSTABLE HEMMER—Wide Hemming
To make a hem more than inch wide, loosen
the thumb screw in the Hemmer and move the scale

to the right as far as it will go, then swing it toward
you as shown in Fig. 38 and tighten the thumb
screw. Fold and crease down a hem of the desired
width; pass the fold under the extension at the right
of the Hemmer, and the edge into the folder as
shown in Fig. 38, and proceed to stitch the hem.
