6. How to sew double chainstitch
The double chainstitch is sewn with 2 threads, one needle and one looper. Normally, this machine trims
the fabric edge while the seam is being sewn however, a chainstitch seam can be placed at a desired
distance from edge of fabric by putting the knife in a non-operating position, disengaging the right looper
and installing the chainstitch seam width gage.
(1) Move knife into non-operating position
• Turn the hand wheel over toward you until the movable knife is at its lowest position and set it in the
non-operating position as shown in the sketch below.
Push the movable knife holder to the right as
far as it will go and turn the knob in the
direction shown.
As shown above, the movable knife will
be in a non-operating position.

(2) Disengage right looper
•
Turn hand wheel over toward you until right looper is
at its lowest position.
•
With the large screwdriver, turn right looper lock screw
counterclockwise until it comes out of right looper
driving lever.
• Pull out the screw with your fingers until it stops.
To re-engage right looper
•
Turn hand wheel toward you until right looper driving
block is at its highest position.
•
Lift right looper driving lever at point A and hold in
place as you turn screw clockwise to tighten.

Remove knife cover and install chainstitch seam width gage.
