AES/EBU Channel Assignments: The Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) specifi ca-
tion defi nes only channel pairs (1-16) and not audio locations (Left , Right, etc.).
Until the relationship is specifi ed, USL will use those established previously in the
cinema industry. Two AES/EBU pinouts are commonly used in the industry. The
DMA8 pinout is the Dolby® standard. The USL pinout was specifi ed in a SMPTE
recommended practice that was never published.
