Do not use automotive anti-freeze. Maintaining a
mixture of minimum 65% water and maximum 35%
properly inhibited HVAC glycol, which contains an
antifoamant, is the preferred method of freeze
protection for CB boilers. Percentage of glycol
used in the CB boiler must not exceed 35%.
Typically, this mixture will serve as burst protection
for temperatures down to approximately -35°F (-
30°C).
IMPORTANT NOTES: Different glycol products may
provide varying degrees of protection. Glycol products
must be maintained properly in a heating system, or they
may become ineffective. Consult the glycol
specifications, or the glycol manufacturer, for information
about specific products, maintenance of solutions, and
set up according to your particular conditions.
CB boilers must not be directly connected to a
heating system utilizing oxygen permeable tubing,
(see warranty). Provide a water-to-water heat
exchanger between systems to prevent corrosion of
tank or other components.
1.21 Common Vent Test
At the time of removal of an existing boiler, the
following steps shall be followed with each appliance
remaining connected to the common venting system
placed in operation, while the other appliances
remaining connected to the common venting system
are not in operation.
a. Seal any unused openings in the common venting
system.
b. Visually inspect the venting system for proper
size and horizontal pitch and determine there is
no blockage or restriction, leakage, corrosion
and other deficiencies which would cause can
unsafe condition.
c. Insofar as practical, close all building doors and
windows and all doors between the space in
which the appliances remaining connected to the
common venting system are located and other
spaces of the building. Turn on clothes dryers
and any appliance not connected to the common
venting system. Turn on any exhaust fans, such as
range hoods and bathroom exhausts, so they will
operate at maximum speed. Do not operate a
summer exhaust fan. Close fireplace dampers.
d. Place in operation the appliance being inspected.
Follow the lighting instructions. Adjust
thermostat so appliance will operate
continuously.
e. Test for spillage at the draft hood relief opening
after 5 minutes of main burner operation. Use
the flame of a match or candle, or smoke from a
cigarette, cigar or pipe.
