TROUBLESHOOTING
Incorrect operations are often mistaken for trouble and malfunctions. If you think that there is something wrong with this component, check the
points below. Sometimes the trouble may lie in another component. Investigate the other components and electrical appliances being used. If
the trouble cannot be rectified even after exercising the checks listed below, ask your nearest PIONEER authorized sen/ice center or your dealer
to carry out repair work.
Symptom Cause Remedy
Cassette door does not
open.
Cassette door does not
close.
e Tape mechanism was not stopped,
e Cassette tape has not been loaded properly.
a Press the stop (■) button,
a Load the tape again.
No power when
POWER switch is set to
ON.
e Disconnected power cord,
e Power cord is connected to switched auxiliary outlet
on a stereo component which is not turned ON.
a Connect properly to a power outlet,
a Turn on the power of that component.
Tape does not run. e Tape is wound to its end.
e Cassette tape not loaded properly.
• Slack tape.
• The deck is in the pause mode.
a Rewind the tape or turn tape over,
a Reload tape.
a Take up slack using pencil (see page 4).
a Press the pause

No sound. • Stereo amplifier function switch is not set to TAPE,
a Stereo amplifier volume control is at minimum
position.
• Unrecorded tape has been loaded.
• Improper stereo amplifier connection.
• Dirty heads.

Connection problems (wrong connection, cord
removed, poor contact broken wire).
a Set it to TAPE,
a Turn up the volume.
a Use a recorded tape,
a Check all connections (see page 5).
a Ciaan the heads (see page 3).
a
Check to see if the Playback connection cord is
properly connected (see page 5).
No recording. a Cassette tape accidental erasure prevention tab
broken off.
a Improper stereo amplifier connection,
a Dirty heads.
a
REC LEVEL control set too low (no indication of the
level meter during recording),
a Connection problems (wrong connection, cord
removed, poor contact broken wire).
a Replace tape or cover tab hole with adhesive
tape (see page 4).
a Check all connections (see page 5).
a Clean the heads (see page 3).
a
Adjust the REC LEVEL control as indicated on
page 11 and record.
a Check to see if the Recording connection cord is
properly connected (see page 5).
Previous sound remains
when recording anew.
a Dirty heads. a Clean the heads (see page 3).
Low treble sound. a A tape which has not recorded with the Dolby NR
System is being played back with DOLBY NR on.
a Dirty heads.
a Set Dolby NR to off.
a Clean the heads (see page 3).
Boosted treble. e A tape which has recorded with Dolby NR System
is being played back with DOLBY NR off.
a Set DOLBY NR to B, C or S.
(DOLBY S type is CT-S450S only)
Distorted sound. e Distortion in recorded tape itself,
a Recording level is too high.
a Dirty heads.
a Try a different tape.
a Turn down recording level and record again (see
page 11).
a Clean the heads (see page 3).
Unstable or intermittent
sound.
a Dirty heads, pinch roiier and capstan.
a
Cassette tape is not wound up uniformly.
a Clean (see page 3).
a
Fast forward or rewind tape to wind up tape again.
