Electric starter
To remove/replace the electric starter:
1. Remove the shroud by following the procedures
described in the Engine Shroud Removal section of
this chapter.
2. Disconnect the starter harness.
3. Remove the two nuts the hold the starter cover to
the starter, using an 8 mm wrench. See Figure 6.16.
4. Lift the cover off of the engine.
5. Remove the dip stick tube.
6. Remove the two screws that secure the starter to
the engine block, using a 10mm wrench. See Figure
6.17.
NOTE: The ring gear is cast into the flywheel.
NOTE: The ground wire is attached to the lower
front starter screw. See Figure 6.18.
7. Install the starter by following the previous steps in
reverse order.
8. Test run the engine before returning it to service.
