Troubleshooting the EVAP system
Symptom
Cause
Fuel leaking from the
carburetor throat or
vents
A blockage in the charcoal
canister or between the
canister and the tank.
Engine runs rich
•
A blockage in the line
between the char-
coal canister and the
carburetor insulator
plate.
Engine runs lean
•
Wrong fuel cap
installed.
•
Leak in the vacuum
lines.
•
Raw gasoline in the
charcoal canister
(plugged vent).
Gasoline vapor
escaping from the
engine
•
The charcoal canis-
ter is saturated.
•
A blockage in the
line between the
charcoal canister
and the carburetor
insulator plate.
•
Wrong fuel cap
installed.
•
Leak in the vacuum
lines.
