DYNATEK COIL KIT DCK2-5

2004+ KAWASAKI KFX 400


Congratulations on your purchase of a Dynatek Ignition Coil Kit. Please take a moment to read these instructions completely
before installing the ignition coil. The installation will only take about 1 hour.

This kit includes: Dynatek Ignition 0.5ohm Mini-Coil

Spark plug wire, terminal and 90°boot

Ground

wire

adaptor

Coil Bracket and mounting hardware


This is a complete kit, and includes everything needed to install the ignition coil.

Note: The stock sparkplug cap will be reused in this application.

Note: Route all wires carefully. Secure wires in factory loops or use cable ties to ensure electrical wires do not chafe or touch
anything hot. Pay close attention to the wiring detail and wire crimping, successful installation depends on this.

Tools Required:

10mm socket wrench and combination wrench

8mm

Flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers

Pliers/Cutters

Installation
1)

Turn ignition key off, remove seat, front body work, and gas tank. (consult service manual if unsure how to do this)

2)

Disconnect the stock coil primary wire. (black, spade connector)

3)

Unplug the sparkplug boot from the spark plug.

4)

Remove the 10mm coil mounting bolt.

5)

Remove the stock coil from the ATV.

6)

Remove the stock spark plug cap from the sparkplug wire. Hold the sparkplug wire near the cap and unscrew
counterclockwise.

7)

Trim Dynatek supplied sparkplug wire to desired length. (Cut about 5 inches off)

8)

Use lube on the wire and push rubber cap cover onto wire.

9)

Press in and screw the stock cap onto the Dynatek supplied sparkplug wire. Screw it in clockwise until it is bottomed
out. Push cap cover onto sparkplug cap for a tight seal.

10)

Plug the 90° wire boot onto the coil output, push the rubber boot onto the coil tower to eliminate any gap as this is a
potential source of high-voltage arcing.

Coil wiring (picture 1)
 BLACK WIRE: from HARNESS to MALE SPADE WITH RED DOT
 BLACK/WHITE WIRE: from HARNESS to GROUND UNDER MOUNTING BOLT
 BLACK DYNA WIRE: from MALE SPADE WITH NO DOT to GROUND UNDER BRACKET BOLT

Install the bracket as shown with the supplied 10mm bolts, nuts and washers. (picture 2)

13)

Install the Coil –Using the original 10mm mounting bolt, make sure ground wire eyelet is connected.

14)

Route the sparkplug wire in the stock location, and plug the sparkplug boot back onto the sparkplug,

Check the wires. Make sure connections are tight and secure.

16)

Re-install gas tank, body work, and seat. Turn fuel on, and start the engine. Installation is complete!
