Check the engine oil, and change the filter as
recommended in the engine owner's manual.
Checking and replacing drive belts: Check the
condition of the drive belts annually or after every 30
hours of operation–whichever comes first. If the belts
are cracked, frayed, or worn, replace them. Only
replace belts in complete sets. To replace drive belt
proceed as follows (see figures 4a and 4b, pg. 8).
1. Shut off engine.
2. Remove the cutter shaft cover and body access
cover.
3. Remove the 5/16" nut that secures the idler
pulley arm to the stump grinder body.
4. Remove the two belts.
5. Install the new belts. Align the cutting shaft
pulley so 1/4" of the cutter shaft is exposed
above pulley. Reverse above instructions to
complete belt replacement.
Greaseable bearings: The stump grinder has two
cutting shaft bearings that require greasing every 25
hours.
Adjustment of engine shutdown lever: Adjust the
cable so when the shutdown control just begins to
move, the cable will begin to move the lever on the
end of it. Adjustment for shutdown: When engine
shutdown lever is released, engine should shutdown
every time.
Do not operate without all guards in place.
Wear eye protection at all times when
operating the stump grinder. Follow all safety
instructions listed in this manual.
The Crary Bear Cat Stump Grinder is not
designed to remove stumps over 12 inches in
height or 18 inches in diameter.
Stump Removal: With the engine running, place the
cutting teeth carefully over the stump that you want
removed while keeping the engine shutdown control
in the upward positing (releasing the engine shut-
down control will stop the engine). Slowly move the
cutters with a slow, smooth, sweeping motion. Never
force or jam the cutting teeth. If cutting next to a
barrier such as a fence or wall, approach from an
angle that will prevent debris from flying toward you.
Using break control: The break control keeps the
left wheel stationary while allowing the right wheel to
rotate freely. Use the break control to help turn the
stump grinder more easily during operation (see
figure 3, pg. 8).
Warning: Before inspecting or servicing any
part of the machine, disconnect the spark
plug wire from the spark plug, and make sure
all moving parts have come to a complete stop. The
cutting teeth are sharp! Use care when working on
machine to avoid injury.
