Safety Instructions
This stump grinder is designed and tested to
offer reasonably safe service. However, failure to
operate it in accordance with the following safety
instructions MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY!
Before Operating
1. Become familiar with the owner's manual before
attempting to operate this equipment. Read the
instructions carefully and question your dealer if
something is not clear. Do not operate this
machine until you are familiar with the controls
and their proper use.
2. Never allow children—or any person unfamiliar
with the use of the stump grinder—to use this
machine.
3. Do not operate this equipment in the vicinity of
bystanders. Keep area clear of all persons and
pets.
4. Before using the stump grinder, thoroughly
inspect the surrounding area. Remove all foreign
objects (stones, wire, bottles, and cans) before
operating.
5. Do not operate when barefoot. Wear proper
clothing to protect feet, legs, and other exposed
parts of your body.
6. Use only in daylight or good artificial light.
7. Never use without proper guards in place.
8. Wear safety glasses at all times while operating
the machine. One pair of glasses is provided with
the stump grinder.
9. Be sure engine is full of oil before using. The
machine is shipped without oil in the engine.
10. Keep cutting blades clear of fences, wires, posts,
rocks, etc. to prevent kick out and blade damage.
11. Do not allow hands, or any part of body or cloth-
ing, near any moving part.
12. Before starting the machine, visually check that
all screws, nuts, bolts, and other fasteners are
properly secured. Once every 10 hours of opera-
tion, all screws, nuts, bolts, and other fasteners
should be checked with wrenches to insure
everything is in proper working condition.
13. Do not operate this machine if you are under
the influence of alcohol, medications, or
substances that can affect your vision,
balance, and judgement. You must be in good
physical health to operate this machine safely.
DANGER: Keep hands and feet out of
cutting blade area while machine is
running.
General Operation
1. Do not run engine indoors. Exhaust contains
odorless and deadly poison carbon monoxide.
2. Maintain firm control of the machine during
operation to prevent tipping. Always be sure of
your footing.
3. If the cutter teeth strike any foreign object,
immediately stop the engine by releasing
shutdown control and allow the blades to come
to a complete stop before removing object.
4. If the machine should start vibrating abnormally,
stop engine immediately by releasing engine
shutdown control and correct the problem before
restarting.
5. Before leaving machine unattended, release
engine shutdown control or move throttle control
lever to slowest position to stop engine.
6. Before inspection or servicing any part of the
machine, shut off the power source, disconnect
the spark plug, and make sure all moving parts
have come to a complete stop.
7. Do not transport or move machine when it is
running.
Maintenance and Storage
1. When this machine is stopped for servicing,
inspection, storage, or to change an accessory,
remove spark plug wire from spark plug.
2. Store the machine out of the reach of children
and where gasoline vapors will not reach an open
flame or spark.
3. To reduce fire hazard, keep engine free of grass,
leaves or excessive grease.
4. For storage periods of three months or more,
drain the gasoline and dispose of it in a safe
manner. Always allow the machine to cool before
storing.
