Assembly
Caution: Remove spark plug wire from
spark plug before assembling.
1. Remove unit and parts from shipping crate.
2. Remove the two handle knobs and bolts that
attach upper handle bar. Attach the upper handle
bar to the lower handle bar support bracket.
Reinsert the bolts through the holes in the
support bracket first, then secure the bolts with
the handle knobs (the knobs should be on the
outside of the handle; they are shipped re-
versed).
3. Place the wheels on the axle. Secure the
wheels with a 5/8" washer and hairpin clip
(supplied).
Starting
Become familiar with the safety instructions in
this manual before starting the stump grinder.
Do not operate without all guards in place. Wear eye
protection at all times when operating the stump
grinder.
FILL ENGINE WITH OIL BEFORE STARTING
See engine manufacturer's manual for amount and
type of oil to use. Make sure machine is level when
filling with oil and gasoline. See figure 1, pg. 8, for
location of oil filler cap.
Move engine fuel valve to ON position before
starting. See engine manual complete instructions.
Caution: Move machine to a clear, level
area outdoors before starting. Do not
operate in the vicinity of bystanders.
1. Check engine oil level and fill if necessary. See
engine manual for filling and maintenance
instructions.
Note: some oil usage is normal. Check level before
each use.
Warning: Handle fuel (gasoline) with care. It
is highly flammable. Always use an approved
container and fill tank outdoors. Never add fuel to a
running or hot engine.
2. Fill fuel tank with fresh, clean unleaded gasoline.
DO NOT MIX OIL WITH GASOLINE.
3. Place engine throttle lever to choke position (see
figure 2, pg. 8).
4. Pull the engine shutdown control up to the
handle (see figure 3, page 8). You must hold the
engine shutdown control lever up during opera-
tion. When you release the lever, it will auto-
matically go to the down position and stop
the engine.
5. Grasp the recoil starter handle and pull out
slowly until you feel the resistance of the starter
engaging. Pull smoothly to start the engine.
Repeat if necessary.
6. Move choke lever to run position after engine
starts. The engine may need partial choke until it
is fully warmed up.
NOTE: When restarting a warm engine after a short
shut down, it may not be necessary to use full choke.
If engine fails to start, move lever to run or partial
choke.
