1.1.1 Outline of Harness Eye Web
HEW is software used in managing the operation of Toshiba Intel Architecture servers.
HEW is web-based operation management software. If the network address of the
Management Proxy is known, the condition of the HEW Agent can be monitored from a web
browser such as Internet Explorer on the console. Also, hardware information specific to
Toshiba Intel Architecure servers can be monitored for fault detection.
HEW modules
HEW is roughly divided into the following three modules:
Management Console
Management Proxy
Agent
In a standard HEW configuration, individual modules are each installed on different
machines as shown in the figure below. The modules can also be installed all on a single
machine. The figure below includes modules needed to install HEW.

Agent
The HTTP protocol is used for communication between the Management Console and the
Management Proxy. The SNMP protocol is used for communication between the
Management Proxy and the Agent.
In-band means a communication using the LAN running on the Operating System on the
machine which an Agent of HEW is installed (hereafter referred to as Agent machine).
Out-of-band means a communication using a special function, when the Operating
System of an Agent machine is stopped. This function is available for only the supported
machine model.
