Glossary
∫ ASF file
• ASF is an abbreviation of Advanced Systems Format,
and one of Windows Media
®
files. Because its size is
small, it is suitable for data transmission and reception
over a phone line etc.
∫ BMP file
• BMP is an abbreviation of Bitmap, and an image
format most commonly used in Windows.
• The extension of this file is [.bmp].
∫ Clip
• This manual refers to materials used as MotionSD
STUDIO editing materials as clips. Moving images are
referred to as video clips and still images are referred
to as still image clips.
∫ Effect
• Various digital processing effects (special effects) can
be used. Clips become videos with special effects by
computations on the personal computer (digital
processing), called rendering.
∫ Exif file
• Exif stands for Exchangeable Image File Format.
• It stores information other than just image information
in JPEG and TIFF files. Information such as
thumbnails, create date and time, digital camera
name, focus length, aperture, shutter speed, white
balance and GPS information (location information),
etc. is recorded.
∫ Frame
• Video images are created like motion picture film by
displaying still images continuously to create motion.
• For the NTSC system, about 30 still images are
displayed for 1 second. For the PAL system, about 25
still images are displayed for 1 second. One of those
still images is referred to as a frame.
∫ JPEG file
• This file format adopts the data compression method
that thins out colour data from a coloured image to the
extent that the human eye cannot discern. JPEG is an
abbreviation of Joint Photographic Experts Group, and
derives from the designation of the committee that has
developed this compression format.
