Off centre boring
In some spindles it is possible to do
off centre boring. It is important
to remember that the centripetal
force will increase and that too high
spindle speed may give unstable
conditions. Machining at long
overhangs with damped tools the
damping system can be taken out of
function due to too high centripetal

Step boring
In rough boring operations with
two or more inserts, step boring
is an effective way to increase the
depth of cut without vibrations. The
idea of step boring is to have the in-
serts set to different radial and axial
distance. To achieve different axial
distance, shims have to be used.
