Insert
1. Choose a light cutting geometry (L-geometry) with a sharp cutting edge.
2. If possible choose a grade with thin coating and a sharp cutting edge.
3. Try to reduce cutting forces by using small corner radii and small
parallel flats.
4. Adding more damping into a system by using more negative or tough
(or even a slightly worn) inserts/cutting edges can in some applications
improve the performance.
Positioning, radial and axial depth of cut
1. Choose a milling cutter with correct ratio between the milling cutter
diameter and the width of the workpiece.
2. The width of cut should be approximately 75% of the milling cutter
diameter.
3. Positioning the milling cutter off-centre in relation to the workpiece surface.
4. Reduce the radial and axial depth of cut.
