6 Managing a virtual machine environment
This chapter introduces the Insight Control virtualization features, which significantly extends Systems Insight
Manager capabilities to manage a virtual environment.
Virtualization overview
The virtualization features of Insight Control provide central management and control for virtual environments
with Microsoft, HyperV, VMware ESX Server, Citrix XenServer, or Xen on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).
Insight Control virtualization features enhance the existing features of Systems Insight Manager for managing
physical servers by providing the ability to manage virtual servers in the same console and showing the
relationships between the two.
All tasks can be run from the CMS management console, using existing discovery, identification and
notification processes.
Table 6-1 “Launching virtual machine management features”
lists the virtual machine management management
features and how to access them.
