Expanding DP Storage Server to support additional file servers

Your DP Storage Server ships with a full copy of Microsoft System Center

Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006, which includes licenses to back

up three network file servers. Each file server in the DPM protection group

must have a valid license.
To be licensed to back up more than three file servers, you must order an

additional Microsoft System Center Data Protection Management License

2006 (DPML) (p/n 403557–B21). Each DPML allows you to back up an

additional server. For example, to support six additional servers, order

six additional DPMLs. This would license you to support a total of nine

file servers.
You can obtain additional DPMLs from your authorized HP sales channel.

When you expand the DP Storage Server to support additional network

file servers, keep in mind the maximum amount of data that the DP

Storage Server can handle during each backup session. HP and Microsoft

recommend implementing 1.5 times the available capacity on your

disk-to-disk backup target; however this multiplier varies based on the rate

that data changes on your network. For example, if you need to protect 1

TB of data, you will require 1.5 TB available capacity on your DP Storage

Server.

NOTE:

The SATA-based DL100 G2 DP Storage Server is optimized for total

configurations of less than 7 TB. If you need to back up more than 7 TB

of file data, HP recommends either adding another DP Storage Server

to distribute the workload or upgrading to the SCSI-based DL380 9TB

DP Storage Server. SCSI-based configurations can adequately scale to

20 TB of total capacity, after which HP recommends adding another DP

Storage Server to distribute the workload.

To update the file server agent licenses in the DPM interface:

1.

From the DPM 2006 main window, select Action>Update Agent.
The Update Agent License window opens.
