Therefore, when programming an AMR module, the Actual Index Pressure Factor – as supplied by the meter manufacturer– should
be used rather than the calculated Pressure Factor. This will avoid correlation issues between the AMR module and the reading on
the index.
The installer must be extremely careful to determine and program the correct Pressure Factor since errors can be
significant The utility meter department should be consulted to understand the utility applications of high pressure before
installation begins
Below are examples of fixed pressure factor indexes, and the resultant Pressure Factor, calculated from information detailed
on the index itself in addition to the Actual Index Pressure Factor provided by the meter manufacturer
Pressure Factor programmed to be 1 3091
Calculated PF:
14 4 psi + 5 0 psi
14 73 psi
= 1.3170
Actual PF (provided by meter manufacturer):
= 1.3091
Pressure Factor programmed to be 1 1111
Calculated PF:
14 4 psi + 2 0 psi
14 73 psi
= 1.1134
Actual PF (provided by meter manufacturer):
= 1.1111
Step 7: Determine Direction of Meter Drive Rotation (ORION SE/ME only)
The ORION SE endpoint has the ability to monitor the direction of rotation of the meter drive, and provide an alert if
the direction changes to the opposite direction A change in direction, or reverse flow, might be an indicator of theft or
tampering
The direction of rotation of the meter drive shaft needs to be determined and programmed
NOTE:
N
The meter drive shaft may not rotate in the same direction as the index Drive Dial due to coupling through the
gearing
Several common meters are shown below, along with the direction of rotation of the meter drive shaft However, given the
variety of meter styles and designs, you should verify the direction of rotation of the meter drive on all meters that will utilize
an ORION SE endpoint Verification is done by removing the index and observing the meter shaft rotation while the meter is
in operation
