2.1 Principles Of Operation
2.1.1 Hydrogen fire detection
This Fire Detector detects the invisible Hydrogen flames by spectral analysis of the
infrared energy emitted by the fire. Special sensors and filters have been selected
to identify the hydrogen’s main combustion product – water vapor.
2.1.2 Identifying the H
2
O peak
The hydrogen fire is characterized by a typical radiation emission. The H
2
O peak
emits intense radiation at several peaks in the spectral band between 1-4 µ and
weaker radiation intensity outside these spectral bands. Special sensors and filters
have been selected to analyze this radiation pattern. The result is a unique flame
detector, which does not produce false alarms and, at the same time, provides
detection over greatly increased distances compared to previous methods.
