The Modbus Communication Tool uses the .NET 2.0 Framework from Microsoft. The installer will check the
availability of .NET 2.0 and ask you for installation if necessary.
The Modbus Communication Tool is provided on a “AS IS” basis. Although it might work on other Windows
versions and with other Modbus devices this was not tested and Rota Yokogawa does not provide any liability,
warranty or support for its use.

9.2 Installation and start

For installation of the Modbus Communication Tool run either the .msi file or execute setup.exe which will
both be available from Yokogawa. Modbus Communication Tool is a 32bit application and will be installed
in the "Program Files (x86)" directory by default. For most users there is no need to change the path. To
complete the installation confirm all messages.
Depending on the version of the operating system and/or settings some users might not have enough
privileges to install Modbus Communication Tool. If you encounter any problems or error messages during
installation please contact your system administrator.
After successful installation an entry "Yokogawa" will be created in your start menu and an icon will be placed
on your desktop. To start Modbus Communication Tool simply double-click the entry in the start menu or on
the desktop icon.

9.3 Using the Modbus Communication Tool

After starting Modbus Communication Tool a pop-up window with logo and disclaimer will appear at first.
Please read carefully. Only after confirmation the application will continue.
The first items to be shown are the communication settings. Here the device address, COM port of the
computer, baud rate, data format and Modbus mode can be adjusted.
Note: The default settings of ROTAMASS are device address 1, 19200 baud, data format 8E1, Modbus RTU.
Make sure that all communication settings of the computer and the connected ROTAMASS match. To
establish a connection check also proper wiring of the lines A (D-) and B (D+) between your RS485
interface and ROTAMASS.
After opening the COM port by pressing the button "Open Serial" the connection will be tested first and the
result will be indicated in the status line of the window.
