GS-3 Multiple-inlet Cyclone
Cat. Nos. 225-100 and 225-103
Description
The GS-3 Cyclone is a 10-mm, lightweight, multiple-inlet, conductive plastic
sampler that uses a standard three-piece cassett e and fi lter for the collection of respira-
ble dust particles. Designed to conform to ISO/CEN particle size-selection criteria (ISO
7708:1995), the GS-3 Cyclone has a 50% cut-point of 4.0 μm (with bias within ISO/OSHA/
NIOSH requirements) at 2.75 L/min* or a 3.5 μm at 3.7 L/min.
†
In addition, the GS-3
Cyclone meets the requirements in the OSHA proposed rule for silica.
The GS-3 Cyclone can be used with a 25 or 37-mm three-piece cassett e with the
corresponding cassett e adapter and fi lter.
Assembly (Figure 1)
The GS-3 Cyclone is supplied fully assembled
with bowl adapter and 37 or 25-mm cassett e
adapter dependent upon model (Cat. Nos.
225-100 or 225-103, respectively). Replacement
cassett e adapters are available, allowing the
user to adapt whichever model they are using
to another cassett e size.
1. Disassemble a three-piece cassett e and set
aside inlet section (usually marked “inlet”).
Keep inlet section for closing the cassett e
aft er sampling.
2. Select a fi lter and support pad as specifi ed
in the sampling method. Place support pad
into cassett e outlet and place fi lter on top
of support pad. Insert cassett e ring (middle)
section into cassett e outlet. Ensure a fi rm
seal.
3. Hold cyclone upside down (cassett e adapter
facing downward). Insert cassett e adapter
into cassett e middle ring section. Press until
a fi rm seal is established.
4. Ensure thumbscrew on cyclone is secure
and that the grit pot remains on the cyclone
body during sampling.
* Calibrated at U.K. Health and Safety Laboratories. Visit
ciency curve.
† Determined using experimental data obtained at fl ows
from 2.0 to 4.0 L/min.
