Troubleshooting Guide
Use the following chart to identify possible causes for system
operating problems during the recovery process and to
determine possible solutions.
RECOVERY OPERATION
Recovery compressor does not start
Cause: Main Power switch off
Cure:
Turn on Main Power switch
Cause: Power cord not plugged in or no power at plug
Cure:
Check circuit for power
Cause: “Full” on digital display
Cure:
Change the tank according to the instructions in
“Installing a Refillable Refrigerant Tank”
Cause: “Hi-P” on digital display
Cure:
Check the valves on the tank to be sure they are open.
Check the air purge indicator. If the green needle
exceeds 275 psi, open the air purge valve until the
pressure reaches 225 psi. Then immediately recycle to
remove any remaining air (see instructions in “Evacuat-
ing the A/C System and Recycling Refrigerant.”
Check the scale calibration—see instructions in
“Checking the Scale Accuracy”
Cause: “CH-F” on digital display
Cure:
Remove and replace the filter-drier (see “Replacing the
Filter-Drier”), and be sure to pull a vacuum
Cause: Faulty components
Cure:
Call factory
Runs a short time, but does not complete recovery
Cause: Tank valves not open
Cure:
Open both valves on the tank
Cause: Manifold valves not open
Cure:
Open both valves on the manifold
Cause: Faulty components
Cure:
Call factory
Runs but won't shut off
Cause: Oil drain valve not closed
Cure:
Close the oil drain valve
Cause: Leak in vehicle system
Cure:
Locate and repair system leak
Cause: Return oil solenoid valve not closing
Cure:
Replace solenoid valve
Cause: Faulty components
Cure:
Call factory
RECYCLING OPERATION
Recovery compressor does not start
Cause: “CH-F” on digital display
Cure:
Remove and replace the filter-drier (see “Replacing the
Filter-Drier”), and be sure to pull a vacuum
Moisture indicator will not turn green after evacuation is
complete
Cause: Saturated filter-drier
Cure:
Remove and replace filter-drier following instructions in
“Replacing the Filter-Drier” (be sure to pull a vacuum)
Cause: Faulty moisture indicator
Cure:
Remove and replace the moisture indicator
Refrigerant does not flow
Cause: Refrigerant supply empty or low
Cure:
Replace the tank or recover more refrigerant before
recycling
Cause: Tank valves not open
Cure:
Open the valves
RECHARGING OPERATION
No power when POWER switch is on—no display showing
Cause: Unit unplugged
Cure:
Plug unit into power source
Cause: No power at wall outlet
Cure:
Locate problem with outlet or change outlets
Vacuum pump does not start
Cause: Vacuum pump unplugged
Cure:
Plug pump into power source
Cause: Vacuum time not entered
Cure:
Program required time for vacuum
Cause: Faulty components
Cure:
Call factory
Audible tone sounds during refrigerant transfer
Cause: Transfer stopped or too slow
Cure:
Start A/C system and pull rest of refrigerant into system
(Step 4 in “Recharging the A/C System”)
Cause: Tank safety strap too tight
Cure:
Loosen the safety strap
Cause: Refrigerant supply empty
Cure:
Replace the refrigerant tank
Refrigerant does not flow
Cause: Refrigerant supply empty
Cure:
Replace the refrigerant tank
Vacuum pump runs, but low side gauge does not register an
appropriate vacuum
Cause: Pump oil contaminated
Cure:
Flush and change vacuum pump oil
Cause: Charging line loose
Cure:
Check connections
Cause: Manifold leaking
Cure:
Check connections
Cause: Vacuum pump’s isolation valve closed
Cure:
Open isolation valve
DIGITAL DISPLAY ERROR CODES
