Pro-Billet LT1 Distributor
Timing and OBD II
PN 83811
The 1996 model LT1 engine is equipped with On Board Diagnostic (OBD II) capabilities and is equipped with a
crank timing sensor. This sensor is used to monitor the timing signals of the distributor, not spark or fuel. This
sensor is used to determine an acceptable window of the distributor’s trigger signal.
The MSD PN 83811 Distributor features timing adjustment capabilities. If the timing is adjusted, there is a
chance of the Service Engine Soon light turning on and a code P0336 being set. This code is a self clearing
code and will not alter the performance of the engine.
If after installation a code is set, it is recommended to clear the codes and may be necessary to retard the timing to
get the trigger signal back within the ‘acceptable window’ determined by the ECU. A worn timing chain could also
promote a code P0336. To achieve the advanced timing without the SES light, it may be necessary to install a timing
chain or upgrade to an adjustable timing gear.
