Local Area Data Set
(LADS) Operation
You can connect 3500 Series DSUs to a 4-wire,
non-loaded metallic circuit that functions as a
point-to-point LADS. Factors that affect this type of
installation are the data rate, the distance between LADS
facilities, and the wire gauge. Table 4-2 summarizes the
typical interrelationship of these factors.
Hardware Strapping
Both Model 3510 and 3511 DSUs can be configured
for installation at the local or remote end of a network by
setting onboard straps. The straps also allow you to
configure either type of DSU (Model 3510 or 3511) as a
LADS for connection to 4-wire metallic circuits.
