4. Place the subject within the Area AF

frame. The focus frame will automatically
change to a focus-area indicator to
confirm the subject.

• The Area-AF mode (p. 37) is automatically set

when the camera is turned on.

• The focus-area indicator shows the area the

camera will focus on.

• The shape of the focus-area indicator varies with

the subject.

5. Press the shutter-release button partway

down.

• The status of the AF system and flash are indicated

by the lamps next to the viewfinder.

Focus lamp (green)

Glows: focus confirmed
Blinks rapidly: subject is too close
Blinks slowly: focus not confirmed (p. 30)

Flash lamp (orange)

Glows: flash is charged and ready
Blinks rapidly: flash charging
Blinks slowly: camera-shake warning
