fi tted in line with the coaxial
cable feed. Con tact your ca ble
com pa ny or your Sun fi re
Dealer for as sis tance.
• Disconnect all connections
from the TGIII to your TV.
• Disconnect any component
which has a grounded power
cord.
• If the hum persists, disconnect
all the source com po nents
one at a time from the back of
the TGIII, until you identify the
source of the prob lem.
• Ground loop isolators are avail-
able for audio lines and video.
You can ask your Sunfi re
Dealer for assistance.
• If the amplifi er has the option,
use balanced con nec tions.
• Disconnect the amplifi ers from
the TGIII. If the hum persists,
try moving the speaker cables
away from any power cords.
Try just one speaker, connect-
ing it to different channels and
see if an amplifi er channel is
bad.
• An audio cable may have a
bad shield
• If you are still having a prob-
lem, remember that Sunfi re’s
dealers and technical support
staff will assist you.
Other causes of noise
• Speaker noise may also be
caused by in ter fer ence or
noise on your AC line. Make
sure there are no large ap-
pli anc es sharing the line, or
halogen lamps or light-dimming
Triac devices.
• Try connecting your system to
another AC socket on a sep-
a rate line.
• If the hum is heard from within
the amplifi er and not through
the speak ers, this may also be
caused by in ter fer ence on the
AC or DC lines. Some amplifi er
trans form ers will turn this into
an audible noise. Internal hum
can be made worse by a shelf
or cabinet resonating, so try
moving the amplifi er to another
shelf.
• Try moving your TGIII further
away from your am pli fi ers. There
may be some effect from the
strong magnetic fi elds which
surround the amplifi er’s power
trans form er.
• Try moving your components
further away from the TV, es pe -
cial ly if you ever notice the
screen has changed color in
the area closest to the compo-
nent.
• If you have very high effi ciency
speak ers, these may show up
noise which other speakers
may not. If your am pli fi er has
gain controls, you should turn
them down a little to reduce
the noise. Remember to repeat
the calibration procedure so
all speakers are playing at the
same level.
No picture is seen on the
TV monitor
• Make sure that the video input
of your TV monitor is connect-
ed to the Main monitor output
on the TGIII rear panel.
• Check that your TV Monitor
is se lect ing the correct video
input.
• Check the video connection
from your selected component
into the TGIII.
• Make sure that you are using
the same video connections.
For example, if your source is
con nect ed using S-video, then
the TV monitor must also use
S-video connections.
• If in doubt, try connecting the
video output from your source
directly to your TV monitor.
This will help you narrow down
the problem.
• Use either S-video or com-
posite connection. If both are
present at the same time, the
TGIII will choose S-video and
the composite output will be off
in this case.
The Holographic Image
does not work
• It is essential that your front
speakers are po si tioned cor-
rectly. See the speaker place-
ment notes on pages 49-50.
• The Holographic Image is most
ef fec tive in 2-channel opera-
tion. It gives a more ac cu rate
per cep tion of the position of
musicians and sound effects.
The results may be somewhat
masked if you are using it in a
sur round mode.
The Tone Controls do not
work
• They will not work if you are
using the 8-CH input, Source
direct mode, or in Zone 2.
There is no Dolby Digital or
DTS play back
• Some discs are available with
a number of different sound
options, such as Dolby Digital
or DTS. Make sure that you
have selected the correct
mode from both the player’s
menu and the DVD's menu.
• Check that your player has
a digital output which is con-
nect ed to the appropriate cor-
responding TGIII digital input.
• There is no AC-3 RF input con-
nection for LaserDisc players.
You will need an external RF
demodulator.
