LED Definitions
In addition to beeper sequences, the scanner communicates with the user using an LED display. Table 2-2 defines LED flashes that
display during scanning.
Aiming
Do not hold the scanner directly over the bar code. Laser light reflecting directly back into the scanner from the bar code is known as
specular reflection. This specular reflection can make decoding difficult.
The scanner can be tilted up to 45
° forward or back and achieve a successful decode (
Figure 2-6 ). Simple practice quickly shows what
tolerances to work within.

LED Indication
Off No power is applied to the scanner.
Green The scanner is on and “ready to scan.”
Momentary flash A bar code was successfully decoded.
Slow continuous flashing The scanner is in programming mode.
Fast continuous flashing There is a internal problem; the laser is shut off for regulatory reasons.
