GENERAL RULES FOR MICROPHONE USE
1. For optimal signal-to-noise ratio, place the microphone as close as
practical to the desired sound source.
2. Aim the microphone directly at the sound source and away from
undesired sound sources.
3. Use no more than one microphone per sound source and use the
fewest number of microphones necessary.
4. For maximum isolation, keep the distance between microphones
at least three times the distance from each source to its micro-
phone.
5. For extra bass response, work close to the microphone.
6. Avoid placing the microphone near acoustically reflective (smooth,
hard) surfaces. Failure to do so will result in a poor frequency re-
sponse and increase the chances for feedback.
7. Add a foam windscreen when using the microphone outdoors to
reduce wind noise.
8. Do not cover any part of the grille with your hand. Covering the
grille alters the sound, distorts the polar pattern, and increases the
chances for feedback.
9. Keep foreign particles out of the grille and the windscreen, as they
may alter the frequency response. If necessary clean the grille with
warm, soapy water. Rinse the grille with plain water and let it dry
before re-installing it.
