Power Protect System Lockout™
PPSL Technology™ features a 2-channel Universal Serial
Bus (USB) power switch. Regardless the source of the
fault PPSL detects under-voltage and over-current.
The preset limit current is 1.500mA and it sustains the
required 900mA per downstream port as required
by the USB specification. If the current draw is above
1.500mA, the PPSL will open the switch cutting off the
downstream current to the affected port and will retry
establishing a valid connection to the downstream
device before setting the associated error flag. Only if
the fault exists for longer than 12ms (typical) the error
flag will be set. Also a thermal shutdown shuts off the
port if the die temperature exceeds 135°C. Conclusion:
PPSL includes thermal shutdown to prevent thermal
damage, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and over-current
protection, ensuring the device remains off unless there
is a valid input voltage. PPSL complies with the USB
Specification 3.0.
