Checking and Adding Oil
To operate the engine, we recommend using “VIPER” brand 4-cycle oil (
194211
), included with each new machine, or an
equivalent 10W-30 engine oil to ensure that the engine operates correctly throughout the life of the engine. Use straight
unleaded premium gasoline, low/no ethanol blends recommended.
1. Be sure the engine is located on a level surface before checking or refilling oil. Proper position for checking oil
level or refilling oil is face down, with the gas tank of the
Tiller down on a horizontal surface (Figure 4).
2.
Clean around oil fill area.
3.
Unscrew dipstick and wipe clean with cloth.
4.
Reinsert dipstick (must be fully threaded for
accurate reading).
5.
Unscrew and check dipstick. If no oil shows on
the dipstick, refill so that the oil level appears between the
low and high marks on the dipstick (Figure 5).
6.
Change oil if contaminated.

Engine is shipped from factory without oil. You must add engine oil before starting engine. If engine is started
without oil, engine may be damaged beyond repair and will not be covered by warranty.
Engine must be tipped forward with gas tank down when checking oil level or filling with oil (Figure 4). Failure to do
so can result in overfilling the engine with oil which will impair the engine’s performance.
