INTRODUTION
This manual, publication 9252000893, covers BE1-50/51B-121 (P/N 9252000121) and BE1-50/51B-123
(P/N 9252000123) relays and is a special version of the standard manual for the BE1-50/51B-214 and
BE1-50/51B-225 relays. The BE1-50/51B-121 and BE1-50/51B-123 relays are modified versions of the
BE1-50/51B-214, have five ampere current sensing, and provide an extended instantaneous element
time delay.
BE1-50/51B-121 and BE1-50/51B-123 relays have the following features.
•
The BE1-50/51B-121 relay plugs directly into a GE IAC case with no modification of case wiring
required.
•
The BE1-50/51B-123 relay is provided with a case and wiring is required.
•
BE1-50/51B-121 and BE1-50/51B-123 relays provide up to 300 milliseconds of instantaneous
element time delay.
•
BE1-50/51B-121 and BE1-50/51B-123 relays replicate ABB CO and IEC time characteristic
curves.
OPERATING DIFFERENCES
Operating differences between the BE1-50/51B-121 and BE1-50/51B-123 relays and the standard BE1-
50/51B-214 relay center around the function of configuration switch SW3 and the time characteristic
curves available in the relays.
Operation of switch SW3 (illustrated in Figure 2-2) in the BE1-50/51B-121 and BE1-50/51B-123 differs
from that in the BE1-50/51B-214 relay. SW3 operation is summarized in the following paragraphs.
SW3 Settings
SW3-1
Selects the system operating frequency.
Off selects 60 hertz operation.
On selects 50 hertz operation.
SW3-2
Selects an additional 100 milliseconds of instantaneous element time delay.
Off disables additional 100 milliseconds of time delay.
On enables additional 100 milliseconds of time delay.
SW3-3
Selects an additional 200 milliseconds of instantaneous element time delay.
Off disables additional 200 milliseconds of time delay.
On enables additional 200 milliseconds of time delay.
Placing both SW3-2 and SW3-3 in the On position provides a total instantaneous element
time delay of 300 milliseconds.
SW3-4
Selects either instantaneous or integrating reset characteristic.
Off selects instantaneous reset.
On selects integrating reset.
The integrating reset function operates only when there is sufficient sensing current to
power the relay.
The ABB CO and IEC curves listed in Table 1-3 are available for selection in the BE1-50/51B-121 and
BE1-50/51B-123 relays. GE IAC curves are not available in these relays.
