Coupé)

Drive program

E+ is characterised by the fol-

lowing:

R

comfort-oriented engine and automatic
transmission settings.

R

optimal fuel consumption resulting from
the automatic transmission shifting up
sooner.

R

the vehicle pulling away more gently in
forward and reverse gears unless the accel-
erator pedal is depressed fully.

R

increased sensitivity. This improves driving
stability on slippery road surfaces, for
example.

R

the automatic transmission shifting up
sooner. This results in the vehicle being
driven at lower engine speeds and the
wheels being less likely to spin.

R

the overrun mode is active in the
60 km/h to 160 km/h range.

-

The combustion engine is switched off
and is disconnected from the drive train.

-

The engine speed corresponds to the
idling speed.

E+ is shown in the multi-

function display and the transmission
position display goes out (

page 166).

Drive program

E+ can be activated under the

following conditions:

R

The vehicle speed is between 60 km/h and
160 km/h.

R

The course of the road is suitable, e.g. there
are no steep up or downhill gradients.

R

You are no longer depressing the acceler-
ator pedal.

Drive program

E+ is deactivated under the

following conditions:

R

You depress the accelerator pedal.

R

You depress the brake pedal.

R

You use the DIRECT SELECT lever to
change the transmission position

You switch to drive program

E or

R

You drive at less than 60 km/h.

R

You drive faster than 160 km/h.

Drive program

S (or, in the case of AMG vehi-

cles, drive programs

S and S+) is character-

ised by the following:

sporty engine and automatic transmission
settings

R

the vehicle pulling away in first gear

R

the automatic transmission shifting up
later

R

as a result of the later automatic transmis-
sion shift points, the fuel consumption pos-
sibly being higher

Manual drive program M

General notes
You can activate manual drive program

M in

the

E, E+ (CLS 350 Coupé) and S automatic

drive programs.
In manual drive program

M, you can briefly

change gear yourself by using the steering
wheel gearshift paddles. The transmission
must be in position

D.

Pull the left or right steering wheel gearshift
paddle (

Manual drive program

M is temporarily acti-

vated. The selected gear and

M appear in

the multifunction display.

Shifting gears
If you pull on the left or right steering wheel
gearshift paddle, the automatic transmission
switches to manual drive program

M for a

limited amount of time. Depending on which
gearshift paddle is pulled, the automatic
transmission immediately shifts into the next
gear down or up, if permitted.
