Freeze Drying Bulk Samples
1. Freeze samples.
2. Prepare the freeze dry system in accordance to its users manual.
3. Turn on the refrigeration system.
4. After the freeze dryer reaches -40° C, frozen samples may be loaded into the chamber.
Replace the lid. Make sure the valve on the top lid is closed.
5. Turn on the vacuum pump.
To remove samples
1. Open the valve on the lid.
2.
Turn off the vacuum pump
.
3. Remove the lid.
4. Remove the sample.
Routine Maintenance
Perform the following procedures after each use
1. Clean the chamber thoroughly, paying particular attention to product spills. Use a soft cloth
or paper towel with a mild, non-abrasive soap or detergent. Do not use organic solvents or
window cleaners on acrylic parts. These cleaners will craze acrylic.
2. Check all rubber seals and gaskets for deterioration. The effective life of rubber parts is
dependent upon their usage and the surrounding environment. Replace as necessary.
Decontamination
When freeze drying biological substances, it is often necessary to decontaminate the system. A
surface decontaminant should be used to clean the accessible surfaces. The use of ethylene oxide is
not recommended because of its hazardous and corrosive nature. Be sure the decontaminant used
are compatible with acrylic and will not craze the surface.
