About This Ma nual
This user’s manual covers several variations of the Hall Research Genesis™ 8x8
and 16x16 VGA/HD matrix switches. The Video matrix comes in various
configurations specified by a part number defined as follows. Since this is an all-
encompassing user’s manual, portions of this guide may not pertain to any
specific unit. Not all combinations in the following list are valid or available -
check with the factory.

AP = Pro audio with per chan. adjustments
Input Type (Option C) Blank = HD15 (VGA RGBHV or HDTV YPbPr)
JP = RJ45 (UTP) with power to senders
JA = RJ45 (UTP) with Audio
# of Inputs (Option D) 16 = 16 Inputs
8 = 8 Inputs
Output Type (Option E) Blank = HD15 (VGA RGBHV or HDTV YPbPr))
JP = RJ45 (UTP) with Power to receivers
JA = RJ45 (UTP) with Audio
JR = RJ45 (UTP) with RS232
JAR = RJ45 (UTP) with Audio & RS232

For Example:
VSM-16-16 Specifies a switch matrix with serial control interface, 16
HD15 VGA inputs and 16 HD15 VGA outputs
VSM-I-A-16-16 Specifies a switch matrix with serial & IP Interface, audio
switching , 16 HD15 VGA inputs and 16 HD15 VGA outputs
VSM-I-AP-16-JP16 Specifies a switch matrix with serial & IP interface,
professional audio (input volume adjustment), 16 HD15 VGA
inputs and 16 RJ45 outputs (video + power on twisted pair)
***Upon power-up, the switch outputs its part number on the RS-232 control
port. There is also a command (RI) for reading the identity of the switch.
