Activate

Now it’s time to activate services for your DIRECTV

Digital Satellite Recorder. Before

you make the phone call:

The recorder should be on, tuned to channel 100, and receiving a signal from the

satellite dish antenna. (Channel 100 shows preview programming from DIRECTV.)

You will need: a valid service address, social security number, and a major credit card

(deposit prepayment may be required). You will also need the number on your

DIRECTV access card and the make, model and serial number of your recorder, found

on a label on the back of the recorder and on the System Information screen. (Press the

DIRECTV button, then select “Messages & Setup” then “System Information.”)

Important! The access card that came with your DIRECTV

Recorder must be

inserted in the appropriate slot in front of the recorder before you call. Also, be sure to

tell your customer care agent that you have a “DIRECTV

Digital Satellite Recorder”

and that you also want to activate the DIRECTV

Digital Video Recording service.

Without the DVR service, your recorder will not be able to record programs.

When you are ready, call 1-800-531-5000.

After you have activated, you can begin Phone Setup, the last step of Guided Setup, by

pressing the DIRECTV button.

What does DIRECTV

Digital Video Recording service provide?

The DVR service provides you with the ability to record programs, create Season Pass

recordings and WishList

searches. It also gives you access to Showcases, TiVo

Suggestions, and several convenient ways to find programs to you want to record. Without

the DVR service, the unit functions only as a DIRECTV Receiver, without recording

capability.

Remember to place the access card

in the appropriate slot in front of

the recorder. See the setup examples in

chapter two for details.
