The
stretch
stltchf
is
especially
suitable
for
sewing
stretch
fabrics,
doubleknit,
trh
cot,
and
jersey
since
it
builds
stretch
into
the seam. Here are a few applications:
♦ Plain seams that s-t-r-eT-cdi (press-open or closed construction)
• Crotch seams
• Sleeve and gusset insertion
• Flexible top stitching
• Lingerieseams
♦
Bv/m
and ski suit construction
♦ Patch pockets
* Seam repair and reinforcement
Use
a
ball-point
(yellow
band)
needle
in
the machine, and increase pressor bar
pressure
when
you
attach
elastic
or
sew
synthetic knit or stretch fabric.

GUIDING AND SUPPORTING FABRIC
Most
fabrics
of
stretch
or
knit
construction
need
only
to
be
guided
in
front
of
the
pressor
foot
when
you
use
the
stretch
stitch.
Simply
let
the
machine
move
the
fabric
to
make
the
stitches that give s-t-r-e-t-c-h to the seam.
Some
fabrics
-
nylon
tricot
and
elasticizeci
fabrics,
for
example
—
do
require
support
while
being stitched.
♦
For
nylon
tricot,
ciré,
panné
velvet,
and
simi
lar
synthetic
knits,
apply
gentle
tension
by
holding
the
seam
in
front
and
back
of
the
pressor foot as you sew.

For
elasticized
fabric,
stretch
lace,
and
knits
with
an
unusual
amount
of
elasticity,
apply
firm
tension
in
front
and
back
of
the
pressor
foot
to
stretch
the
seam
as
the
stitches are being placed.
