The Stitch and Its Uses
This stitch can be used for sewing a
seam with an overcast finish.
The seam is formed and finished in
one operation, it can be used when
you are making swimwear, ski pants
and
other
garments
that
require
stretch.
Here’s How
Place the raw edge of the fabric to
the LEFT of the needle as shown.
Stitch so the needle pierces the fabric
IMSt short of the outside edge.
Or, place your fabric to allow a 5/8"
seam, then trim seam allowance
after.
Raw or worn edges of older garments
can bs overcast to prevent further
ravsiing.
MOTE; Use a blue stretch fabric
needle, which effectively
prevents skipped stitches.
Use this stitch when you want a
narrow seam that you do not need to
press open flat. It is ideal for 1/4"
seams on knits or on medium to
heavyweight woven fabrics where you
want a narrow seam. It is also great
for making elastic swim wear.
Here's How
Place the fabric under the presser
foot so that the stitches are made
over the edge.
Or, place your fabric to allow a 5/8"
seam, then trim seam allowance
after.
NOTE;
When
using
stretch
knit
fabric, use a blue stretch
fabric
needle
which
effectively
prevents
skipped smches.
