HIGH TEMPERATURE SHUT OFF SYSTEM
This ^tcr heater is equipped with an automatic gas shut ofFsys-
temperature shut oflF is built into the gas control
j^vc. This system shuts off the gas supply to the water heater
burners when high water temperatures are present. It is non
resettable. If the high temperature shut off activates, the gas con
trol valve must be replaced. If this were to occur, nirn “OFF” the
OTtire gas supply to the water heater. Contact the Sears Service
Center.

turn OFF the manual gas control valve to the appliance.
NOT ENOUGH OR NO HOT WATER
• Check the manual gas shut off valve to be sure it is open.
•
Check the pilot flame. It may have gone out. Ail models have
Ш opening behind the outer door for viewing the pilot.

If the pilot IS not lit, follow the “Lighting” instructions in this
manual or lorated above the gas control valve on the water
heater to relight the pilot. If the water was extremely hot and is
now cold, the high limit safety temperature shut off may have
put out the burner and pilot. If the high temperature shut off
Rivâtes, Ле gas control valve must be replaced. Contact the
bears Service Center.

• The temperature adjustment dial may be set too low. See the
Temperature Regulation" section.
• The gas company can check the gas input to see if it is correct.
An underbred water heater will not heat water as quickly.

The cold water inlet temperature may be colder during the
wnter mondis. It wiU take longer to heat the water and seem
like less hot water.

If you cannot find what is wrong, call the Sears Service
Center.
WATER IS TOO HOT
• The temperature adjustment dial may be set too high. See the
lemperature Adjustment” section.
NOIT: A penod of time is necessary after an adjustment
has been made for the vratet temperature to reach the new
temperature setting,
• If lower temperamre settings will not lower the water tempera
ture, call the Sears Service Center.
AWARNING
Due to the nature of the typical gas water heater, the
mter
temperature
in
certain
situations
may
be
hotter
than the thermostat setting.
Shoi% frequent draws of hot
water -
especially with very
cold incoming water - can shock the thermostat into brief
operation
resulting
in
hotter
and
hotter
layers
of
water
closer to the top of the tank.
Changes in hot water usage patterns or raising the tem
perature
differential
between
the
cut-on
of
the
thermo-
stot and ^e cold vrater temperature wilt usually eliminate
