I. INTRODUCTION
The Brookfield KU-1 and KU-1Q Viscometers measure fluid viscosity in Krebs Units. The digital
display shows the viscosity reading in either Krebs units (KU) or the associated gram value. A
paddle type spindle is driven at 200 rpm by a direct current motor. The current required to maintain
200 rpm is the measure of torque and is converted to viscosity in Krebs Units. The Viscometers will
measure viscosity from 53 to 140 KU, at weights from 70 to 1,090 grams. Application and reference
information may be found in ASTM-D562.
I.1 Components
The KU-1 Viscometer package (Figure 1) includes:
1) KU-1 Viscometer, upright rod and base 4) U.S. pint can
2) Paddle spindle 5) U.S. 1/2 pint can adapter (see Figure 2)
3) Operating instructions manual
Note: KU-1 handle assembly is shipped attached to the viscometer.
